Bertrand Traore netted twice to give Ajax the advantage in the first leg tie of the Europa League semi final as the former European champions edged Lyon 4-1.
The Chelsea loanee converted in the 25th minute via a header after Hakim Ziyech’s free kick found him in the box before the goal scorer assisted Kasper Dolberg’s volley which found the back of the net to increase the lead to 2 at half time.
Despite the visitors’ dominance in the first half, Amin Younes was quick to make the score line 3, only four minutes after the break after his effort set up by Hakim Ziyech was deflected past Anthony Lopes.
Ajax midfielder, Lasse Schoenne made a poor clearance to gift Mathieu Valbuena a threatening goal in the 66th minute but the threat only lasted 5 minutes as Traore tapped in from another Hakim Ziyech pass to finish the game off.
Ajax now looks good to the journey to Stockholm having 3 goals advantage. Lyon has to score at least 3 and avoid Ajax from scoring in France or produce a better score line to prove this fact wrong. Else, Ajax will only be waiting for the winner of the second fixture between Celta Vigo and Manchester United.
