Marcus Rashford’s 67 minute free kick made the night for the Red Devils as they beat Celta Vigo in Spain to give United the advantage ahead the second leg tie.
The Spanish side were not bad though as they forced Sergio Romero to many spectacular saves but their better ball possession couldn’t help them reply Rashford’s second half goal.
Mkhirtayan and Jesse Lingard later had the chance to double the lead but their efforts were met with Sergio Avarez’s incredible saves.
Mourinho’s men now stand a better chance to play their first Europa League final when they host the Celticos next week at the Old Trafford.
Should the Red Devils proceed to the final, it will be two records in the bag. Manchester United will be playing in their first UEFA Europa League final while Jose Mourinho may add Manchester United to the number of teams he has led to European glory.
