Former Liverpool Manager, Rafa Benitez is eyeing Sheyi Ojo as one of his possible additions to the promoted Newcastle side this summer.
The Newcastle Manager, who surprisingly took the Tyne job in the late moment of the 2015/2016 season is keen to add to his wide options for next season. He is also currently monitoring Palace’s Andros Townsend and Leicester’s Tom Lawrence.
The Spanish gaffer is hoping for a war chest this summer and will not be content to merely avoid relegation. Having managed some of the best sides in Europe he knows what it takes to compete and beat the best.
Meanwhile, the England Under-20 international has struggled for playing time at Liverpool, and it does not appear that he will feature regularly under manager Jurgen Klopp next season.
His season-long loan at Wolves in 2015 failed to go as well as he would have hoped with only 17 appearances and two goals. His time at Wigan was equally as disappointing.
The English winger has been criticised on a number of occasions by Liverpool staff and managers for a lack of focus. Benitez will be hoping that he can coach this out of him and get him to fulfill his potential.
Ojo, however, is a very exciting prospect, his direct running and pace would be an asset for many a side. He showed his true potential in a U23 game against Tottenham at Anfield earlier in the season. An excellent individual goal and an impressive performance helped to light up Anfield.
Having failed with a previous bid a few years ago Newcastle will be hoping that it will be the second time lucky in their attempts to acquire his services.
