Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal not put off paying £53million Alexandre Lacazette transfer fee

The Gunners boss is eager to bring in a big name in attack to help persuade Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil not to leave the club, and reports suggest Lacazette is top of the list of targets on Arsenal’s wishlist.

The French stricker had another sensational campaign in 2016/17 season, scoring 37 goals in 45 games in all competitions to attract interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs.

Arsenal notably failed with a bid of around £28.5m for Lacaztte last summer, but are now thought to be ready to pay what’s required to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

With a move to Atletico Madrid now off the cards due to their transfer ban, Arsenal are prepared to pay his asking price of £53m as they look to strengthen up front.

The 26-year-old is also being linked with Arsenal’s rivals Manchester United, while Wenger is also still holding out hope for an ambitious deal for Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe.

The teenage striker scored 26 goals in a sensational breakthrough season last term, and is expected to cost over £100m this summer.

Lacazette looks a more realistic target, and will look a relative bargain to Wenger at almost half the cost of his international colleague Mbappe.
