Former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner has said that he expects Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches to sign for Liverpool.
The Portugal international has been strongly linked with a switch to join Premier League champions Chelsea, but the Reds have joined the race according to recent reports.
Mariner has made no secrets about his stand on the Portuguese. Mariner said he feels the teenager would be best suited becoming part of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad as he will get more regular game time at Anfield.
“No, not yet, I don’t think so. I think it would be a bit too much for him.” he said.
“I think if he goes to Chelsea he just goes into the rotation. That’s not what he wants.
“He’s a fantastic player this kid, a young player, a sensational player.
“I think that he may end up at Liverpool.” he finished.
Liverpool are reported to be seeking a permanent deal for the nineteen year old, while Chelsea are said to be willing to agree terms on a season-long loan switch for the midfielder.
And Bayern executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the German club are looking to move on him for just a year as they feel he can prosper for them down the road.
“We would send him out on loan for maximum one year because we are convinced he can become a good and useful Bayern player.” he said.
“I had a long talk with Renato and this is a story with an open ending. He does not necessarily want to leave, he wants to play.
“We all share this opinion.” he finished.
