GRIEZMANN TO BARCA?
Antoine Griezmann has emerged as a top transfer target for Barcelona as the Catalans could well be in the market for a striker if Neymar joins Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee, writes AS.
Armed with the money they would receive for the Brazil international, they could tempt Atletico into parting with their prized asset the very same summer the 26-year-old pledged his future to the capital club.
The France forward had looked set to join Manchester United earlier in the summer but rejected their advances following Atleti’s transfer ban being upheld.
‘AGUERO FOR SANCHEZ MAKES SENSE’
South American football expert Tim Vickery has been in the Sky Sports News studio this morning and he’s given his view on Alexis Sanchez’s future at Arsenal…
“If I was in Arsene Wenger’s position, one thing would worry me,” he told SSN. “In 2014 it was the World Cup, in 2015 he went all the way to the final in Copa America, 2016 an extra Copa America that went all the way to the final, 2017 was a Confederations Cup all the way to the final and 2018 is the World Cup.
“In 2019 there’s another Copa America. That’s year after year without a proper break. For a player like Sanchez, who really covers the ground and is difficult to hold back, that’s a lot.
“He’s late 20s and in Wenger’s heyday this would be the time Wenger would get rid of him. Perhaps, a year earlier than you would otherwise think it necessary.
“I have not seen any speculation on this but to me it makes perfect sense. A straight swap: Aguero for Sanchez. Arsenal have said they don’t want to sell him to a Premier League rival but if they get Aguero they get a goalscorer, someone who from the moment he didn’t play away to Barcelona you wondered if Pep Guardiola really fancied him. That swap would make a lot of sense. It would ease the pain [of losing Sanchez].”
CAICEDO JOINS LAZIO
Lazio have signed former Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo from Espanyol.
The Ecuadorian scored 24 times in 103 appearances after moving to the La Liga club three years ago, but only found the net twice last season.
His struggles in the most recent campaign have not dissuaded Lazio, who confirmed Caicedo’s arrival in a short statement that disclosed neither the fee nor the length of contract.
The Rome-based outfit did, however, reveal young pair Simone Palombi and Marius Adamonis have signed five-year deals.
Leicester‘s Riyad Mahrez is increasingly hopeful of getting his big-money transfer to Roma, according to the Daily Mirror.
The report suggests the Algeria international is ready to force through a move away from the King Power stadium if necessary.
Mahrez has also been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.
Ralf Rangnick: ‘New Naby Keita contract is unlikely
RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has admitted that it is unlikely that Naby Keita will sign a new contract at the club.
Keita has been persistently linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but the Reds are now expected to wait until next year to make another move having been told that the Guinea international is not for sale at any price.
A clause in Keita’s contract means that he could be available for £48m next summer and, while reiterating that the midfielder will not be sold this year, Rangnick does not expect Keita to sign an extension.
“I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely,” he told Sport Bild.”I can assure you that Naby is playing with us this season. All other scenarios also depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays himself and so on.
