Antonio Conte is set to be offered a £5.5million-a-year to return AC Milan back to their former glories.
The former Chelsea boss is wanted by the Serie A giants to replace Gennaro Gattuso, who is already facing the axe despite only getting the job in April.
Conte has already turned down a return to his homeland this summer, rejecting a deal to take over as the Italian national team boss before Roberto Mancini was appointed.
But any appointment by Milan could now be held up because Conte is still battling Chelsea for the £9million he is due for the remaining year of his Stamford Bridge contract.
The 48-year-old has embarked on a legal battle with Chelsea over the terms of the pay off.
