Jerome Boateng has rejected the chance to join Manchester United, according to reports in Germany.
Bild suggest the German international personally phoned Jose Mourinho earlier in the week to reveal he does not want to make the switch to Old Trafford in the summer transfer market.
Talks of a possible transfer for Boateng originally emerged earlier this week after United travelled to play Bayern in their final pre-season fixture ahead of the new Premier League season.
Original reports from Bild suggested both clubs had held talks over a potential deal ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, however the latest report suggests the 29-year-old is now set on proving himself in the Bundesliga.
MEN Sport revealed in June that Boateng was on a list of defensive alternatives should the club fail to conclude a deal for Toby Alderweireld in the summer window.
With less than two days left for United to sign any more players this year Alderweireld still remains the transfer priority, however time is running out rapidly.
Mourinho was asked about signing Boateng by a German interviewer at the Allianz Arena before the Bayern game on Sunday, and was coy in his response: “My CEO knows what I want for quite a long time. He knows what I want, I know that he tries to do the best for me and I still have a few days to wait what is going to happen.”
