WORLD NUMBER 25 CALLS OUT SERENA WILLIAMS REACTION IN U.S OPEN FINAL

World No. 25 Barbora Strycova has slammed Serena Williams over her now infamous U.S. Open final meltdown, declaring the American’s attempt to justify her behaviour by pointing to sexism from umpire Carlos Ramos as the reason she was given three code violations as bulls***

Williams branded Ramos a ‘thief’ and a ‘liar’ as she was given three code violations for coaching, smashing her racquet and verbal abuse during her U.S. Open final defeat to Naomi Osaka, the last of which resulted in a game penalty and acted as the major catalyst for Williams to subsequently fire more shots at Ramos in her post-match press conference, saying the umpire’s decision to penalise her obvious indiscretions as “a sexist remark”.
The accusations from Williams have divided the tennis world over the last week and unfortunately completely overshadowed Osaka’s stunning maiden major triumph – and now Strycova has spoken out against the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

“This is a bulls***, for umpires being women or men doesn’t matter,” Strycova told Czech website Sport.CZ. “In comparison, I never saw (Rafael) Nadal shouting like that with an umpire.

“Ramos is tough, one of the best umpires in the world. He did what he had to do in that match, because she overstepped the limit.

“Did she have to behave differently only because she was Serena Williams? I find it interesting that she did it only when she was losing.”

Strycova was also surprised that statements from the WTA and U.S. Tennis Association directly after the incident didn’t condemn the 36-year-old’s actions.
