Manchester United are reportedly making one last attempt to try and persuade Ander Herrera not to leave Old Trafford next summer.
The 29-year-old impressed Jose Mourinho with his attitude and display after being introduced as a second-half substitute in the late weekend victory at Bournemouth.
Herrera is in the final months of his contract and free to talk to clubs on the continent in January, with the Red Devils so far failing to secure a new agreement. United, however, are refusing to give up and it is believed the board are putting together a revised proposal under renewed encouragement from Mourinho, who has spoken with Herrera and told him he wants him to stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
They have been hedging their bets and could accept a knockdown fee of around £2m this January if the Spaniard refuses to meet them halfway. Herrera has kept his head down and refused to complain about a lack of starting opportunities this season, something which has not gone unnoticed
The former Athletic Bilbao man earns around £130,000 per week but knows he would have to walk away on a free transfer to continue receiving that kind of salary anywhere else, giving the Manchester giants hope their own deep pockets can prove ultimately decisive.
