Arsenal are launching a £42m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, reports have claimed.
Unai Emery is looking to overhaul his squad but Starsport understands he only has around £45m to spend in the summer transfer window.
Ceballos has emerged as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who left for Juventus when his contract expired last month.
Arsenal have contacted Real Madrid to discuss the 22-year-old’s availability.
Zinedine Zidane is likely to dump Ceballos, who was on the fringes at the Bernabeu last term.
A host of clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool have been linked but Arsenal are set to firm up their interest.
According to Eldes Marque, the Gunners’ opening gambit will total £42m (€48m).
And it is claimed the offer could be high enough for Real Madrid bigwig Florentino Perez to accept.
Ceballos is concerned about his future after a disappointing campaign at the Bernabeu.
He is hoping to break into Spain’s squad for Euro 2020 but managed just 19 starts in all competitions last season.
After helping his country win the Under-21 European Championship, Ceballos admitted he wants more minutes on the pitch next season.
“I’ve always said I have four-year contract with Real Madrid, but it is true that I’m happy playing football,” he said last month.
“That’s when I feel important in the field and with confidence when everything is much easier.
“The next year I want to play 40 games and aspire to win.”
