Liverpool are the favourites to sign Norwich star Todd Cantwell after firming up their interest this month, reports say.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a transfer for Cantwell, who has caught the eye of rival clubs in a relegation-battling side.
Liverpool fans were impressed by Cantwell’s performance in their win over Norwich at the weekend and the Athletic report Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff were won over by the 21-year-old. Even the Liverpool players liked what they saw from Cantwell, who has scored six times this season.
United were weighing up a move for Cantwell in January, but decided to focus their efforts on signing Bruno Fernandes and an emergency striker. Manchester City and Tottenham have also expressed an interest in Cantwell, but Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of the attacking midfielder since the close of the winter transfer window.
As a result, the Reds are now the frontrunners to land Cantwell, who will be allowed to leave Norwich if they are relegated from the Premier League. Norwich are currently rock bottom of the table and appear destined to drop back down in the Championship after just a season in the top-flight.
Liverpool believe they can snap up Cantwell for around £30million and he could be a direct replacement for Adam Lallana, who is set to leave the club once his contract expires.
Klopp has a wealth of options in midfield, but will be keen to inject some new energy in the summer with the Reds poised to win their first Premier League title.
