Manchester United legend, Gary Neville is adamant that Liverpool do not possess the most dominant attacking trio in Premier League history.
Gary Neville insists that Manchester United’s attacking trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney was more clinical than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Salah, Mane and Firmino are considered by many as the most devastating attack in the Premier League today with a staggering total of 47 league goals between them this season.
But Neville doesn’t think they are the most impressive front three in the history of the competition as he believes Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney provided more threat in 2007/2008 season.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s strikers at the time led United to a Premier League title as well as the Champions League trophy after beating Chelsea in the final.
Neville told the Football Show: “Let’s be clear, Tevez for a year with Ronaldo and Rooney was just breathtaking. It was out of this world, it really was.
“Not just because of the quality of the players, there was this real selfish, horrible, nasty determination to those three.
“Ronaldo in a different sense on the pitch as he would go around kicking people, hassling, hustling, he was a menace with his performance levels.
“Rooney and Tevez were street fighters but with unbelievable ability. There was something about that three.
“You talk about the best three in the Premier League, the best front three, you’ll never beat those three.
“You can talk about Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, I love them to bits, and Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane at Manchester City.
“But you look at the front three of Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo, at their peak, were out of this world.”
Salah, Mane and Firmino have been critical in Liverpool’s Premier League onslaught this season which saw them climbing to the top of the table and closing in on their first title in 30 years.
But Kop boss Jurgen Klopp has been without a doubt the architect of this incredible campaign with Virgil van Dijk’s powerful displays also earning him plaudits from countless fans around the globe who see him as the best defender in the world.
The Reds still lead the table with a whopping 25 points separating them from second-placed Manchester City.
However, the season has been suspended since March due to the coronavirus pandemic and it is still unknown when it will restart.
