MANCITY 1-1 LIVERPOOL: JESUS STRIKE CANCELS OUT SALAH PENALTY IN ETIHAD DRAW.

Gabriel Jesus cancelled out a first-half penalty from Mohamed Salah as Manchester City drew 1-1 with Liverpool and denied the champions a return to the top of the table.

Salah fired Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot on 13 minutes after Sadio Mane drew a foul from Kyle Walker.

But Man City pulled level in the 31st minute with a smart turn and left-foot finish by Jesus from Kevin De Bruyne’s pass.

De Bruyne had the chance to put the home side ahead five minutes before half-time, after a Video Assistant Referee review confirmed a Joe Gomez handball, but the midfielder sent his penalty narrowly wide.

The teams traded chances in the second half, with Jesus’s header from Joao Cancelo’s cross going just wide moments before Roberto Firmino fizzed an effort over for Liverpool, but both sides had to settle for a point.

Man City are 11th on 12 points, six points behind leaders Leicester City, while Liverpool are third and five points above Pep Guardiola’s side.

WESTBROM 0-1 TOTTENHAM: LATE KANE HEADER HUMBLE STUBBORN WESTBROM.

Harry Kane headed in a late winner for his 150th Premier League goal as Tottenham Hotspur triumphed 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion.

Both teams had first-half chances, the best of which fell to Son Heung-min, whose close-range shot was blocked.

West Brom nearly opened the scoring when Callum Robinson’s floated cross was headed off the line by Eric Dier.

The hosts’ Conor Gallagher clipped a post from long range and Darnell Furlong headed at Hugo Lloris, before Giovani Lo Celso missed a big chance at the other end moments after coming on.

Spurs ramped up the pressure and after Carlos Vinicius was superbly denied by Sam Johnstone, Kane flicked Matt Doherty’s 88th-minute cross beyond West Brom’s goalkeeper to secure the victory.

Kane’s seventh goal this season puts Spurs top of the table on 17 points, but Leicester City and Liverpool can go above them if they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City respectively.

West Brom remain winless in 18th place.

LEICESTER 1-0 WOLVES: VARDY PENALTY EARN FOXES MAXIMUM POINTS.

Jamie Vardy scored one of two first-half penalties as Leicester City went top of the Premier League with a 1-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Referee Anthony Taylor awarded the first spot kick after using the Referee Review Area following a handball by Max Kilman, with Vardy converting from 12 yards.

The striker missed the chance to extend their lead six minutes before the break, Rui Patricio saving his penalty after Rayan Ait-Nouri fouled James Justin.

Wolves rallied in the second half, with Pedro Neto firing powerfully at Kasper Schmeichel before the Leicester goalkeeper produced a fantastic save to deny Ruben Neves.

Harvey Barnes then had an effort deflected over for Brendan Rodgers’ team, who held on to go top with 18 points. Liverpool can overtake them if they win at Manchester City.

Wolves drop to eighth, with 13 points from eight matches.

WESTHAM 1-0 FULHAM: TOMAS SOUCEK STOPPAGE TIME GOAL WINS IT FOR THE HAMMERS.

A stoppage-time strike from Tomas Soucek and a dramatic late penalty miss by Ademola Lookman helped West Ham United edge a 1-0 win over Fulham at London Stadium.

In an entertaining first half, West Ham came closest to scoring when Sebastien Haller’s seventh-minute header hit the bar.

The hosts were again denied by the woodwork when Aaron Cresswell’s free-kick clipped the crossbar five minutes after half-time.

A minute into time added on, Soucek converted Said Benrahma’s pass to break the deadlock.

But Lookman had the chance to level from the spot with the last kick of the match following a foul by Benrahma on Tom Cairney.

Lookman’s scuffed attempt at a chip was comfortably held by Lukasz Fabianski.

West Ham go 11th with 11 points, while Fulham remain 17th on four points.

PSG 3-0 RENNES: DI MARIA’S BRACE HELP PSG REMAIN TOP OF THE TABLE.

Angel Di Maria scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain made short work of Rennes despite a raft of absences in a 3-0 win on Saturday that enables the champions to hold onto their lead at the top of Ligue 1.

Di Maria struck in each half, with Moise Kean scoring the other, to move PSG up to 24 points, five ahead of second-placed Lille who take on Brest in Sunday’s early fixture.

Rennes stay third on 18 points — but can be overtaken by Nice should they beat Monaco on Sunday — while Montpellier are a further point back in sixth after their 2-0 win at Bordeaux.

PSG’s win was their eighth in a row in the French top flight and came as under-fire coach Thomas Tuchel battles with an injury crisis that has left him without the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Marco Verratti.

Marquinhos was moved back into the defence following injury to centre-back Presnel Kimpembe, while Pablo Sarabia failed to overcome a muscle strain.

However new arrival Kean put the hosts ahead after 10 minutes with his third Ligue 1 goal of the season when he collected Di Maria’s pass and lashed a low shot past Alfred Gomis.

Di Maria then added the second 10 minutes later when fellow Argentine Leandro Paredes picked him out with a fine through ball and he dinked his finish over Gomis.

PSG suffered what looked to be more injury strife when Thilo Kehrer left the field 10 minutes before the end of the first half, before Kean then began limping on the hour mark before being substituted shortly afterwards.

The result was never really in doubt however, and Di Maria made absolutely sure of the points in the 73rd minute when his low drive squirmed past the unfortunate Gomis.

A thumping win over Rennes is unlikely to improve Tuchel’s precarious position at PSG though as last season’s Champions League finalists struggle in this year’s edition.

The 47-year-old German, whose contract is up at the end of this season, is in a sticky position after PSG lost 2-1 at RB Leipzig on Wednesday to leave them with two defeats out of three in the competition’s group stage.

It has become an open secret that Tuchel does not get on with Leonardo, PSG’s powerful sporting director, who did not hire the German and wants to bring in his own man.

DORTMUND 2-3 BAYERN: BAYERN EDGE YELLOWS IN A GOAL FEST.

Bayern Munich made it three Der Klassiker wins in 2020 by beating Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday. Robert Lewandowski, David Alaba, and Leroy Sane provided goals for visitors, while Marco Reus and Erling Braut Haaland were on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Hansi Flick was forced to make on change in the defense that played against Red Bull Salzburg. Benjamin Pavard missed out due to injury, so Bouna Sarr slotted in the right-back position. Leon Goretzka replaced Corentin Tolisso in the midfield. Dortmund made two changes to the team that won against Club Brugge in midweek. Mats Hummels replaced Mahmoud Dahoud, while Reus and Jadon Sancho replaced Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt in the attack.

The game started at an incredible tempo as both teams looked to stamp the authority straightaway. Dortmund looked threatening on the break while Die Roten used a more measured way to build attacks and break down the resilient defense of BVB. The first big chance fell for Lewandowski but his attempt hit the side netting.

The Polish striker scored in the 24th minute after some tidy play by Serge Gnabry on the left flank. However, the VAR chalked off the goal after replays suggested that Lewandowski was marginally offside. Both sides continued to create half-chances in the latter part of the first half. Dortmund managed to convert one of these chances as Reus blasted the shot in the net after a neat cross delivered by Raphael Guerreiro.

Die Roten reacted immediately after going down as a cleverly worked freekick was converted by Alaba. The Austrian defender continues to show his impeccable skills from setpieces. At half-time, both teams cancelled each other out with two well-crafted goals.

The German Champions roared back into the lead straight away after half-time as Lewandowski scored the 11th goal of the league campaign. The Pole headed past Roman Burki after Lucas Hernandez delivered a cushioned cross from the left flank. The visitors were all over BVB as Coman smashed the woodwork with a fierce attempt from the box.

Dortmund found it very difficult to contain Die Roten’s attack, but they did have chances at the other end to get back into the game. Jerome Boateng and Alaba had to defend resolutely as Haaland was often bullying them aerially.

The pressure on BVB increased when Sane came off the bench and curled it past Burki to double Bayern’s lead. The missed chances came back to bite Dortmund. The German winger scored his second goal of the week as he also came off the bench against RB Salzburg,

Haaland finally got his goal after he timed his run to perfection to meet Guerreiro’s chipped pass. Die Roten were on the ropes in the final five minutes, but they showed composure to see out the game. Lewandowski had scored the fourth goal in injury time, but it was once again disallowed due to offside.

Flick will be pleased with the performance as Die Roten look formidable in the Bundesliga. His main concern will be the extent of Joshua Kimmich‘s injury as the German midfielder hobbled off in the first half. Bayern remains top of the table after this win, with a two points lead over RB Leipzig.

Chelsea came from behind to ease past Sheffield United 4-1 at Stamford Bridge and extend their unbeaten league run to six matches.

David McGoldrick gave the visitors a ninth-minute lead against the run of play as he flicked in Sander Berge’s shot.

Tammy Abraham equalised for Chelsea on 23 minutes, converting a cutback from Mateo Kovacic, who had been played in by Hakim Ziyech.

After Timo Werner had struck the bar, Chelsea went ahead in the 34th minute when Ben Chilwell was first to meet Ziyech’s cross at the far post.

Frank Lampard’s side sealed their win with two late goals inside four minutes, as Thiago Silva headed in Ziyech’s corner and Werner seized a loose ball to score.

Chelsea go third on 15 points, while Sheffield United drop to the bottom with just one point.

EVERTON 1-3 MANUTD: BRUNO FERNANDES HELP UNITED GRAB RECORD WIN AT GOODISON PARK.

Bruno Fernandes struck twice as Manchester United came from behind to beat Everton 3-1 and earn a club record-equalling seventh successive Premier League away win.

Bernard gave Everton a 19th-minute lead with a smart low finish. But Man Utd levelled six minutes later when Fernandes headed in from Luke Shaw’s cross.

Lucas Digne hit a post before Fernandes put United in front on 32 minutes with a cross that eluded Marcus Rashford but went in off the far post.

Everton pushed hard for an equaliser but Harry Maguire denied Dominic Calvert-Lewin before Abdoulaye Doucoure shot over.

Man Utd substitute Edinson Cavani sealed victory on the counter in stoppage time with his first Premier League goal, sweeping home after Fernandes’ pass.

A third straight defeat leaves Everton fifth, three points ahead of United in 13th.

EZE INSPIRES PALACE TO 4-1 VICTORY AGAINST LEEDS.

Eberechi Eze scored a superb free-kick and created another goal as Crystal Palace beat Leeds United 4-1 in an open match at Selhurst Park.

Scott Dann headed in Eze’s corner to put the hosts in front on 12 minutes.

Palace doubled their lead 10 minutes later with Eze’s first Premier League goal, a curling free-kick.

Patrick Bamford, who had an earlier effort overturned by the VAR for offside, pulled a goal back in the 27th minute, volleying in Mateusz Klich’s pass.

Palace restored their two-goal lead three minutes before half-time when Patrick van Aanholt’s cross was deflected in by Helder Costa.

Jordan Ayew converted Wilfried Zaha’s cross to secure the win on 70 minutes.

Palace move up to sixth with 13 points, while back-to-back defeats drop Leeds to 14th on 10 points.

SOTON 2-0 NEWCASTLE: SAINTS GO TOP OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 32 YEARS.

Southampton moved top of the Premier League for the first time in their history after beating Newcastle 2-0 at St Mary’s.

A seventh-minute strike from Che Adams gave the home side an early lead and they wrapped up victory in the 82nd minute through Stuart Armstrong.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men dominated possession and chances as they sealed a comfortable win that saw them replace Liverpool at the top of the table ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

The Saints last stood at the summit of English football 32 years ago under the management of Chris Nicholl and it marks a remarkable 12 months for the Austrian manager since their 9-0 thrashing by Leicester last October.

Newcastle, who had yet to be beaten away from home in the Premier League this season and headed into the game on the south coast in good form, having beaten Everton 2-1 in their previous fixture, but often lacked control and managed just four shots during the game.

Southampton moved level on 16 points with defending champions Liverpool, but could be overtaken by the Reds, Leicester, Tottenham or Everton if they win at the weekend.

The Saints took the lead with the first real chance of the game.

Karl Darlow was forced into a diving save to deny Adams with a curled strike from the edge of the area, but Newcastle were unable to clear the danger.

Theo Walcott won the ball back on the right after Miguel Almiron failed to clear his lines before playing in Adams, who fired it past the Newcastle goalkeeper to give his side the advantage.

Adams had another chance five minutes later when he controlled the ball in the box before taking a shot, but his effort lacked power and Darlow was able to gather.

After the goal, Newcastle tried to get a foothold in the game. Their first real chance came in the 22nd minute, but Sean Longstaff’s header from Jamal Lewis’ cross was straight at goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

Walcott had an opportunity to double his side’s lead just before the half-time break but his curled shot was just wide of the target.

At the start of the second half, Jamaal Lascelles denied Southampton a second with a clearance off the line from Jan Bednarek’s effort, before Darlow was forced into a fingertip save to force Oriol Romeu’s drive from distance onto the woodwork and over.

Southampton had a penalty shout after Walcott was brought down by Lascelles in the area, but the challenge was not reviewed by VAR.

The home side were eventually rewarded for their dominance in the 82nd minute when they made it 2-0. Armstrong capitalised on a mis-timed pass from Sean Longstaff before cutting in and driving the ball past Darlow.

Joelinton almost pulled one back for the visitors, forcing McCarthy into a diving save to push the substitute’s header over the bar, but Southampton held on to secure all three points and move to the top of the league.
