Manchester City have not ruled out signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester City have supposedly not ruled out the prospect of signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in the coming days.

Despite Juve chiefs’ insistence that Ronaldo is going nowhere this summer, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is still being heavily linked with an exit after entering the final 12 months of his Turin deal.

With Harry Kane confirming that he is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur for the 2021-22 season, City have been tipped to turn their attention to Ronaldo, who is supposedly prepared to push for a move to the Etihad.

While Pep Guardiola is thought to retain faith in current number nine Gabriel Jesus, ESPN claims that the Premier League champions have not ruled out the idea of welcoming Ronaldo to the blue side of Manchester.

However, the report adds that the 36-year-old’s mammoth wages could scupper a move, while Juve are thought to be demanding a fee of €30m (£25.7m) for his sale, whereas City do not want to dip into their war chest.

Ronaldo started on the bench during Juventus’ Serie A opener with Udinese last weekend, although both Pavel Nedved and Massimiliano Allegri played down the decision as a mutually agreed tactical one

Harry Kane wants release clause in any new Tottenham Hotspur deal

Harry Kane reportedly wants a release clause to be inserted in any new deal he signs at Tottenham Hotspur.

The England captain announced on Wednesday that he would be staying in North London this summer, in spite of strong interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Following the news that the 28-year-old is set to remain at the club for the time being, Spurs supposedly want to tie him down to a new deal worth £330k per week, even with his existing deal not due to expire until 2024.

Now, The Telegraph claims that Kane is open to discussing a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he would want a release clause to be included after a supposed gentleman’s agreement with Daniel Levy was not honoured.

Levy was thought to be demanding a fee of £150m to part ways with Kane and supposedly stopped taking calls from Man City earlier this month, which could lead Pep Guardiola’s men to turn their attention to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane made his first appearance for Tottenham this season off the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers and boasts 221 goals from 337 games in white.

Marcus Rashford back in Manchester United training

Marcus Rashford is already back training with Manchester United despite only undergoing an operation on a long-standing shoulder issue earlier this month.

The 23-year-old has been unavailable for selection for his side’s first two matches of the 2021-22 campaign due to the surgery that occurred in the early stages of August.

Rashford is unlikely to be able to make his return until October at the earliest, but Man United have released footage of the England international on the grass at Carrington.

“He seemed very happy with the surgery. He’s working in the gym. We see him every day so he’ll be chomping at the bit when it gets nearer to the time when he can come back,” Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said at the weekend when questioned on the attacker’s progress.

Rashford, who made five appearances for England at Euro 2020, scored 21 goals and registered 15 assists in 57 appearances at club level during the 2020-21 season.

Man United will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea closing in on £42.8m deal for Jules Kounde

Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.

The France international’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with Chelsea emerging as the leading candidates to sign him before the end of the transfer window.

A recent report claimed that Thomas Tuchel’s side were facing the prospect of missing out on a deal for Kounde unless they made progress in talks with Sevilla over the next couple of days.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues have now achieved a breakthrough, and a deal worth an initial €50m (£42.8m) is almost done.

Di Marzio claims that the transfer will include a number of add-ons, which will be triggered if the 22-year-old reaches certain goals during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Kounde has made 90 appearances for Sevilla over the last two years, while he was in action for France at this summer’s European Championships.

Chelsea are still attempting to sell Kurt Zouma before the end of the transfer window, and West Ham United are said to be in advanced discussions over a deal for the centre-back

Arsenal ease pressure with thumping Carabao Cup win at West Brom

Arsenal got their season up and running by coasting to victory in their second-round Carabao Cup tie at West Brom – with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hitting a hat-trick on his return to the side.

With pressure building on manager Mikel Arteta already after two defeats at the start of the new Premier League campaign, there was welcome relief as the Gunners smashed their hosts 6-0.

Aubameyang had been struck down by Covid on the eve of the new season, missing the loss at Brentford and coming off the bench in defeat to Chelsea.

He will not have scored many easier goals than the first-half brace he grabbed here before adding a fine third for the match ball as Nicolas Pepe, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette also found the back of the net.

Saka was lively and Martin Odegaard impressed on his second debut for the club following his permanent switch from Real Madrid last week – but Arteta and his side will not be judged on such tests as this.

While the Arsenal starting XI boasted 348 senior international caps and three national captains in Aubameyang, Odegaard and Granit Xhaka – West Brom made 11 changes from their win at Blackburn, handing out five debuts with an average age of under 23.

Aaron Ramsdale made his Arsenal debut in goal and got off to a shaky start with his feet in front on an unfamiliar back four, which included Sead Kolasinac at centre-back.

He did, however, make a smart low save to keep out Tom Fellow’s low strike as the hosts started well – only to fall behind on 17 minutes.

Saka’s smart feet saw him evade a number of challenges before his low shot was pushed out into the feet of Aubameyang, who tucked home from close-range for Arsenal’s first goal of the campaign.

Odegaard should have marked his second debut with a goal but hit the post from a tight angle with the goal gaping.

The tie was wrapped up as Arsenal scored two in quick succession on the stroke of half-time.

First, Aubameyang doubled his tally for the night as he tapped home after Pepe hit the post following a fine Mohamed Elneny pass.

Then he turned provider, seeing his own shot saved before his acrobatic shot fell to Pepe who slid in to finish.

Saka got his name on the scoresheet soon after the restart, finishing with aplomb following a fine flick from Odegaard.

Lacazette opened his account for the season just four minutes into his first appearance, tucking home at the front post as Pepe claimed another assist.

That was the end of the rout as Arteta enjoyed a fine evening all round ahead of Saturday’s trip to reigning Premier League champions and Carabao Cup holders Manchester City.

Gabriel Jesus set to remain at Manchester City this summer

Manchester City attacker Gabriel Jesus has reportedly done enough in the early stages of the 2021-22 season to convince head coach Pep Guardiola to keep him at the club this summer.

The Brazil international was strongly linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium earlier in the transfer window, with Juventus believed to be the favourites to sign him.

However, talk of a switch to Turin has cooled in recent weeks, and according to Eurosport, Jesus is no longer available for transfer, even if Harry Kane arrives from Tottenham Hotspur.

The report claims that Guardiola views the South American as an option in the wide areas, and the Man City boss wants to keep hold of him for the current season.

The 24-year-old has scored 82 goals and registered 36 assists in 197 appearances for the Citizens since arriving from Palmeiras in 2017.

Guardiola lavished praise on Jesus for his performance in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Norwich City, which saw the English champions pick up their first points of the season

Florentino Perez: Paris Saint-Germain issued rude response to Kylian Mbappe bid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said that Paris Saint-Germain issued a ‘rude’ response to the Spanish club’s offer for Kylian Mbappe.

The France international has told PSG that he wants to leave the club before the end of the transfer window, and Los Blancos are believed to have made an offer in the region of £137m for his services.

Perez has revealed that the Ligue 1 giants ‘answered rudely’ when the offer was made, as PSG are believed to be holding out for a much higher fee than the offer said to have been placed on the table.

“They [PSG] have already answered and rudely,” Perez told Spanish journalist Jose Manuel Moreno.

Mbappe has scored 133 goals and registered 63 assists in 174 appearances for PSG since making the move from Monaco, initially on loan, in the summer of 2017.

The 22-year-old’s current deal at Parc des Princes is due to expire next June, meaning that he would be free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January 2022 if he remains in Paris beyond the deadline.

Manchester United in pole position to sign Erling Braut Haaland next summer

Manchester United are reportedly at the head of the queue for Erling Braut Haaland‘s signature in the summer of 2022.

The Norwegian starlet seems set to remain at Borussia Dortmund for the 2021-22 season, with Chelsea understood to have had a proposal turned down while the Black and Yellow can afford to play hardball over a fee.

However, Haaland’s £68m release clause will be active by the time the next summer window rolls around, and an intense battle for his services is set to commence at the end of this season.

According to Bild, Haaland will “definitely” be on his way out of Dortmund after the current campaign, and United are in pole position to sign the former Red Bull Salzburg man.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was tipped to bring his compatriot to Old Trafford earlier in the summer, but Edinson Cavani’s contract extension allowed United to prioritise other areas in the transfer window.

Haaland has already claimed five goals and three assists from four appearances in all competitions this season, taking his total tally in Dortmund colours to 62 goals and 18 assists from 63 games.

Chelsea to hijack Manchester United move for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez

Chelsea are reportedly planning a last-minute attempt to hijack Saul Niguez‘s proposed move to Manchester United from Atletico Madrid.

The Spaniard has allegedly been told that he is free to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this summer, and a recent report claimed that he was set to join Man United ‘imminently’.

However, with other Premier League clubs being alerted to his availability, it appears that the Red Devils have a fight on their hands to secure Saul’s services in the next week.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are considering a late loan move for Saul, with Thomas Tuchel keen to bolster his midfield options after sending Billy Gilmour out on loan to Norwich City.

The report adds that Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley may have to be offloaded before a bid for Saul can be lodged, though, and United are still thought to be at the head of the queue.

Despite struggling for starts last term, Saul has played the full 90 minutes in both of Atletico’s La Liga games so far this season, claiming the assist for Angel Correa’s second goal in their opening-day win over Celta Vigo.

Mikel Arteta given five games to save Arsenal job

Mikel Arteta‘s future as Arsenal head coach is set to be decided within the next five games, according to a report.

Despite lifting the FA Cup at the end of the 2019-20 season, the Spaniard has endured a difficult reign at the helm, guiding his side to successive eighth-placed league finishes, with the latter causing the Gunners to miss out on European football for the first time in 25 years.

Arteta has also overseen a disappointing start to the 2020-21 campaign with the North London club, suffering back-to-back 2-0 defeats against Brentford and Chelsea in their opening two Premier League games.

The 39-year-old is now under increased pressure to turn the club’s fortunes around and according to the Daily Telegraph, the Arsenal boss has until the second international break in October to save his job.

Arteta’s next match in the dugout is for the League Cup second round clash at home against West Bromwich Albion tonight, before a trip to Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.

League encounters against Norwich City and Burnley will then follow in September before they welcome North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium later that month.

If Arteta is relieved of his duties, then Arsenal will reportedly consider the appointment of former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who is currently out of work after leaving Inter Milan in May
