EVE 1-0 WOL: RICHARLISON SECOND HALF STRIKE HELP THE TOFFEES STAY WITHIN EUROPEAN SPOT

Richarlison boosted Everton’s hopes of European qualification with the only goal in a home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In an even opening 45 minutes at Goodison Park Wolves came closest to scoring but Adama Traore’s shot was tipped over by Jordan Pickford.

Everton took the lead three minutes into the second half when Richarlison rose highest to head in Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner.

Everton pressed for a second and after had John Ruddy denied Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Sigurdsson’s deflected effort went narrowly wide.

A first Premier League double over Wolves keeps Everton in eighth place but they are level on 59 points with seventh-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who lost to Aston Villa this evening, and three points behind West Ham United in sixth.

Wolves stay 12th with 45 points.

ASTON VILLA BEAT TOTTENHAM IN A DRAMATIC 2-1 COME BACK VICTORY

Aston Villa came from behind to dent Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of qualifying for European football next season.

Steven Bergwijn had given Spurs the lead with a superb strike but the hosts gifted Villa an equaliser when Sergio Reguilon sliced Marvelous Nakamba’s cross into his own net to score the 1,000th own goal in Premier League history.

Ollie Watkins completed the turnaround six minutes before half-time with a close-range finish for his 14th goal of the campaign.

Anwar El Ghazi and Watkins then missed further chances for Villa to extend their lead before the break.

Spurs rallied in the second half, but Bergwijn and Harry Kane were both denied by Emiliano Martinez as they fell to a first home defeat under interim head coach Ryan Mason.

They drop to seventh on 59 points, three behind West Ham United and above Everton on goal difference alone.

A first Villa win in four matches keeps them in 11th with 52 points.

ARSENAL SCORE LATE GOALS AGAINST PALACE TO KEEP EUROPEAN HOPES ALIVE

Stoppage-time goals by Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe earned Arsenal a 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace that keeps alive their hopes of a top-seven finish.

Palace had the better of the early chances in Roy Hodgson’s final home match in charge of his boyhood club, with Gary Cahill, Christian Benteke and Jeffrey Schlupp all going close.

But Arsenal went in front after 35 minutes through Pepe, who volleyed in from Kieran Tierney’s cross.

Benteke equalised in the 62nd minute, heading in from Andros Townsend’s free-kick for his fourth goal in as many matches.

With both sides pushing for a late winner, Martinelli bundled in Martin Odegaard’s cross before Pepe sealed the win with a fine run and finish for his second goal of the match.

A seventh London derby unbeaten takes Arsenal above Leeds United into ninth, a point behind Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

Palace lie 13th with 44 points.

SOTON 0-2 LEEDS: THIRD STRAIGHT WIN TAKES WHITES TO TOP EIGHT.

Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts were on target as Leeds United secured a third straight victory and climbed to eighth, staying in the fight for European qualification.

Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla tipped a Che Adams header over the bar in the opening minutes and later palmed away another effort from the striker as Southampton started well in front of 8,000 home fans.

The visitors’ best chance of the first half fell to Stuart Dallas, who controlled the ball on his chest before shooting wide just inside the box.

Saints’ James Ward-Prowse clipped the bar with a free-kick soon after the break, while Alex McCarthy denied Dallas and Bamford in quick succession at the other end.

But Bamford beat McCarthy with 17 minutes left, latching on to Rodrigo’s pass and finishing between the goalkeeper’s legs for his 16th Premier League goal of the season.

Roberts then struck for the first time in the competition, reacting quickest when Bamford’s stoppage-time shot was saved and slotting into the bottom corner.

Leeds’ 10th away win of the campaign, which is a club record in the Premier League, takes them to 56 points, three behind Spurs and West Ham United in the battle for European places, although the London clubs each have a match in hand and better goal difference.

Southampton stay 14th with 43 points.

BRYAN CANCEL OUT CAVANI’S EARLY WONDER GOAL TO RESCUE A POINT FOR FULHAM

Joe Bryan’s second-half header helped Fulham come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

In front of 10,000 returning home fans at Old Trafford, Edinson Cavani gave Man Utd the lead with a stunning strike on 15 minutes.

The Uruguayan spotted Alphonse Areola off his line and lobbed the Fulham goalkeeper with a first-time shot from range.

Bruno Fernandes fired a free-kick narrowly wide, while at the other end David De Gea denied Ademola Lookman and Fabio Carvalho.

Fulham equalised on 76 minutes when Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s cross was headed in at the far post by Bryan.

Man Utd, without a win in three PL matches, are second on 71 points, while relegated Fulham lie 18th on 28 points.

RUDIGER, JORGINHO ON TARGET AS CHELSEA EDGE LEICESTER CITY TO CLIMB UP TO THIRD POSITION

Second-half goals from Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho earned Chelsea a crucial victory over Leicester City that took them above their visitors into third place.

Chelsea had the better of the first-half chances at Stamford Bridge, with Ben Chilwell firing across goal early on and Timo Werner having one goal disallowed for handball and another for offside.

Rudiger eventually broke the deadlock two minutes after the break, tucking the ball home after Chilwell’s corner was deflected into his path.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty after a Video Assistant Referee review for a Wesley Fofana foul on Werner, which had originally been awarded as a free-kick. Jorginho sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way from 12 yards.

Leicester substitute Kelechi Iheanacho benefited from Wilfred Ndidi’s pressing to reduce the arrears 14 minutes from time and Ayoze Perez had a presentable late chance to grab an equaliser, but he fired over.

Chelsea held on to claim a victory that takes their points tally to 67, one more than Leicester’s 66.

The Foxes slip to fourth with one match remaining, and will drop to fifth if Liverpool beat Burnley on Wednesday.

EDERSON MAKES HISTORY AFTER WINNING SECOND SUCCESSIVE PREMIER LEAGUE GOLDEN GLOVE

Ederson has retained the Golden Glove, winning the 2020/21 award after moving out of reach of Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Manchester City’s No 1 has 18 clean sheets, two more than Mendy, and now cannot be caught on the final day.

While the Brazilian was beaten three times in a 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday, Mendy was unable to capitalise and close the gap, conceding in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City.

Ederson becomes only the third goalkeeper to win the prize in successive campaigns, after Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and former Man City player Joe Hart.

The bulk of Ederson’s shutouts came in a phenomenal 10-week spell between late November and early February, when he conceded just one goals in 12 Premier League matches.

He has beaten his winning total from last season, when he managed 16 shutouts.

Indeed, with a match still to play against Everton on Sunday, his tally of 18 clean sheets is the joint second-highest recorded in the last 13 seasons, only being eclipsed by the 21 of his countryman Alisson in 2018/19.

ERIC CANTONA INDUCTED INTO PREMIER LEAGUE HALL OF FAME

Eric Cantona has become the third player to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The 54-year-old former Manchester United forward follows in the footsteps of Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry, who were announced as the first two inductees on April 26th.

Cantona, who began his career in England at Leeds, scored 70 goals in 156 Premier League appearances and won four titles in five seasons for Manchester United.

Commenting on his induction, the talismanic Frenchman said: “I am very happy and very proud, but at the same time I am not surprised.

“I would’ve been surprised not to be elected! I have been lucky to play in this team, with wonderful players, a wonderful manager and wonderful fans.

“We won and it was the football I dreamed about because Manchester United, it’s a club where they want to win things but in a good way.”

Cantona is one of the six players from a 23-man shortlist to receive the most combined votes from the public and the Premier League Awards Panel and the next five inductees will be announced over the next three days.

The Hall of Fame was launched last month to “recognise and celebrate the exceptional skill and talent of players who have graced the League since its inception in 1992”.

A fans’ vote closed on May 9th, while to be eligible, players must have been retired by August 1st, 2020. Only a player’s Premier League career was considered.

HARRY KANE DECLARES INTENTION TO LEAVE TOTTENHAM

Harry Kane has told Tottenham he wants to leave the club this summer, sources say.

Sources said the England captain expressed his desire to move on during a face-to-face meeting with chairman Daniel Levy, and he would prefer to remain in the Premier League.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all lodged interest with Kane’s representatives, but it remains to be seen whether any club will offer the £150 million it will likely take to convince Spurs to sell.

Kane had repeatedly dropped hints about his frustration over a lack of silverware despite becoming one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers, scoring 165 goals in 243 appearances to sit seventh on the all-time list.

However, he has yet to win a trophy with Tottenham or England. The club’s most recent setback came last month when Spurs lost the Carabao Cup Final to City 1-0 at Wembley.

Head coach Jose Mourinho was sacked six days before that game after a disappointing campaign in which they will miss out on Champions League qualification barring a mathematical miracle in the final week.

Despite this, Kane’s individual performances have remained strong. With 22 goals and 13 assists, only Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (40) and Lionel Messi (39) have more goal involvements in Europe’s top five leagues in this season.

Kane has not handed in a transfer request and, significantly, he has three years remaining on his current £200,000-a-week contract.

Spurs are therefore in a strong negotiating position should Levy sanction his departure, but the chairman remains reluctant to lose the club’s prized asset, even for what would be one of the biggest transfer fees in history.

Sources said Kane is hopeful the situation can be resolved before the start of Euro 2020 on June 11, however, and that confidence could be based on unconfirmed reports suggesting he was keen to move on last summer but was convinced by Levy to give the club one more year in return for a softer stance at the end of this season should he still want to find a new club.

If Spurs are to grant their captain’s wish, they would prefer he go to a club abroad rather than strengthen a domestic rival, but Kane’s main suitors are all likely to be English.

Chelsea are in the market for a striker and would not be put off by the price tag given they hold an active interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, whose contract would command a similar fee.

Levy has a difficult relationship with Chelsea arising from previous transfers, however, which might therefore hand an advantage to United or City.

Fans have protested at the owners, ENIC, and Levy’s handling of the club in the wake of their involvement in the failed Super League project, and about 10,000 supporters will be able to attend their final home game against Aston Villa on Wednesday once coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

GOALKEEPER ALISSON BECKER HEADS IN LATE WINNER AT WESTBROM AS LIVERPOOL STAY IN TOP FOUR HUNT

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker headed a dramatic stoppage-time winner at West Brom to keep Liverpool’s Champions League hopes alive.

Just as the Reds’ top-four chances looked virtually over, the Brazil international glanced in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner to clinch a 2-1 win.

He was mobbed by his team-mates after his shock goal moved Liverpool to within a point of fourth-placed Chelsea with two Premier League games left.

Mohamed Salah had earlier cancelled out Hal Robson-Kanu’s first top-flight goal for almost four years.

Roberto Firmino hit the post and Sadio Mane had a goal disallowed for offside as relegated Albion gave as good as they got.

Kyle Bartley saw his goal ruled out as the Baggies nearly caused an upset before Alisson’s late heroics.
