WBA 0-5 LEEDS: THE WHITES SCORE FIVE TO MATCH THEIR BIGGEST AWAY WIN RECORD.

Leeds United equalled their biggest-ever Premier League away win as they earned a 5-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion.

A Romaine Sawyers own goal broke the deadlock in the ninth minute, and Ezgjan Alioski’s powerful strike off the right post doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark.

Jack Harrison then exchanged passes with Patrick Bamford before brilliantly finding the top-left corner of the net for Leeds’ third.

Rodrigo’s deflected effort from the edge of penalty area made it 4-0 with five first-half minutes to play.

After the break, Raphina added Leeds’ fifth with a curling effort to the top-left corner from outside the box.

The win moves Leeds up to 11th on 23 points.

West Brom stay 19th on eight points, five from safety.

LIV 1-1 WBA: THE HAWTHORNS STUN LIVERPOOL TO CLAIM POINT AT ANFIELD.

Sam Allardyce first away manager to avoid defeat at Anfield this season thanks to Semi Ajayi’s late header

Semi Ajayi’s 82nd-minute header made Sam Allardyce’s West Bromwich Albion the first team to deny Liverpool a win at Anfield this season.

Liverpool started on the front foot, with Sadio Mane firing them ahead on 12 minutes when he controlled Joel Matip’s pass, spun and scored.

The home side dominated but could not turn their 82 per cent possession in the first half into further goals.

West Brom had more of the game after the break, with Karlan Grant and Ajayi each having efforts saved by Alisson.

The equaliser came as Ajayi rose highest to head in Matheus Pereira’s cross off the post.

Roberto Firmino almost snatched a last-minute winner for the champions but his header was superbly tipped wide by Sam Johnstone.

Liverpool have 32 points, three clear of Everton at the top, while West Brom remain 19th with eight points.

ARSENAL ARE JUST LIKE US – ALLARDYCE.

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce insists Arsenal are in a relegation battle just like Westbromwich Albion, his new team.

The Gunners are 15th in the table having lost five of their last seven Primmer League matches.

Allardyce, who has never suffered relegation with his seven previous top-flight clubs, replaced Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns last week.

The Baggies are five points from safety after 14 games and host Arsenal on January 2.

Asked if he views the Gunners as a relegation rival, Allardyce said: “If they are in the bottom eight at the moment, yes, absolutely.

They’ve only won maybe one in the last 10 or so, and it appears their big results have come in the Europa League.

“And of course getting beat again last night, even though it’s not in the league, as it does with our players, drains the confidence of Arsenal’s players, of course it will.

Because they’ll be wondering what has hit them, why they are down there, and what it is going to take to get out of that position.

“I know what it takes, I hope I can convince the players to respond to what I say on what it takes to get out of it.

I hope we can push on Arsenal when they play us because they’ve got a lack of confidence, and try to beat them – or anybody in the bottom eight.”

He added: “[Arsenal boss] Mikel Arteta would not think they’d be in that position at this moment in time, but he seems a strong character, seems to not move away from what his beliefs are – which is what we all have to do.”

WEST BROMWICH ALBION SACK SLAVEN BILIC DESPITE MANCITY DRAW

Slaven Bilic has been sacked by West Bromwich Albion, despite Tuesday’s surprise 1-1 draw with Manchester City bringing them an unexpected point in the battle to avoid relegation.

West Brom are second from bottom in the Premier League after picking up only seven points from 13 games, their sole victory coming against Sheffield United late last month. They have also drawn four games and lost eight.

A statement from the club read: “West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with Head Coach Slaven Bilic.

“Assistant Coaches, Dean Racunica and Danilo Butorovic, and First Team Coach Julian Dicks have also left the club with immediate effect.

“Albion would like to thank Slaven and his coaching staff for their efforts in achieving promotion last season and wishes them all well in the future.

“The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Bilic, who was appointed West Brom boss in June 2019 and won promotion back to the Premier League last season, is the first top flight manager to lose his job this campaign.

Speaking after Tuesday’s credible draw at Manchester City, the 52-year-old did not appear to be a man under pressure.

“To be fair, I’m not bothered,” Bilic told reporters. “I’m doing my job. I’m enjoying it. I’m working hard for myself, for my staff, for the players, for the club, that’s all.

“Everything else is out of my control. I’m not really that bothered what’s happening behind the scenes. I don’t care.”

West Brom next host Aston Villa on Sunday.

MANCITY 1-1 WESTBROM: THE HAWTHORNS HOLD CITIZENS TO DRAW AT THE ETIHAD .

Manchester City’s hopes of closing the gap on the Premier League pacesetters were frustrated as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to lowly West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.

City took the lead on the half hour when Raheem Sterling did well to work his way to the byline and pull the ball back to Ilkay Gundogan who expertly side-footed home.

But West Brom drew level two minutes before the break when a shot on the turn from Semi Ajayi hit City defender Ruben Dias and deflected past wrong-footed goalkeeper Ederson.

The hosts camped in West Brom’s half throughout most of the second period but Slaven Bilic’s side showed tremendous determination and defensive solidity.

City had late chances though — Kevin De Bruyne went close with a free-kick that West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone did well to reach while Sergio Aguero blasted wide from a good position.

Johnstone did well again in stoppage time to keep out a close-range Gundogan header and denied another great opportunity for Sterling who headed straight at the keeper.

After 12 games Pep Guardiola’s City are in sixth place, five points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool who both have 25 points and face each other at Anfield on Wednesday.

West Brom are second-bottom on seven points.

West Brom recovered and Conor Gallagher spurned a good chance to equalise before half-time, screwing his shot wide.

The Baggies equalised five minutes after the break. Matt Phillips burst down the left wing and crossed for Darnell Furlong to convert first-time.

At the other end, Phillips cleared Gayle’s header off the line.

With eight minutes remaining, another substitute, Jacob Murphy, crossed for Gayle to head in off the crossbar.

WBA 1-5 CRY: ZAHA AND BENTEKE INSPIRE PALACE RECORD WIN.

Crystal Palace scored five goals in a top-flight away match for the first time as they claimed a 5-1 victory over 10-man West Bromwich Albion.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men with 11 first-half minutes to play, with Matheus Pereira dismissed for violent conduct after an incident involving Patrick van Aanholt.

Wilfried Zaha restored Palace’s lead on 55 minutes before Christian Benteke headed in his first goal of the season shortly after.

Zaha added his second on 68 minutes and Benteke complete a brace of his own when he turned and finished with eight minutes remaining.

WESTBROM 1-0 SHEFFIELD UTD: GALLAGHER EARNS HAWTHORNS FIRST VICTORY.

West Brom move out of the relegation zone after a close-fought victory over Sheffield United, courtesy of a goal from Conor Gallager.

The on-loan Chelsea man was alone at the edge of the box when Sander Berge cleared Matheus Pereira’s corner to him and he side-footed past the onrushing players into the corner of the net.

Albion had Sam Johnstone to thank for preserving the lead as the ex-Manchester United goalkeeper made a string of saves, the best of which tipping over at full-stretch a header from former Baggie Ollie Burke.

The Baggies came close to extending their lead when Kyle Bartley met Pereira’s corner with a bullet header that Aaron Ramsdale dived smartly low to his right to turn away.

George Baldock had the Blades’best two chances to get on the scoresheet early in each half but spurned them both.

Albion move above Burnley into 17th, while the Blades remain propping up the table with a solitary point.

MAN UTD 1-0 WESTBROM: FERNANDES’ RETAKEN PENALTY EARNS FIRST HOME WIN FOR THE DEVILS.

Bruno Fernandes’ second-half penalty proved the difference as Manchester United earned a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Man Utd started the match well but West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone twice produced fine saves to deny Anthony Martial.

A minute after the break, West Brom were awarded a penalty following a foul on Conor Gallagher by Fernandes. However, referee David Coote overturned his decision after reviewing the pitchside monitor.

At the other end, a penalty for handball by Darnell Furlong was converted at the second attempt by Fernandes on 56 minutes.

The Portuguese’s spot-kick was initially saved, but the VAR adjudged Johnstone came off his line too early and the retaken penalty was scored.

A first home victory of the season moves Man Utd up to ninth on 13 points. West Brom stay 18th on three points.

WESTBROM 0-1 TOTTENHAM: LATE KANE HEADER HUMBLE STUBBORN WESTBROM.

Harry Kane headed in a late winner for his 150th Premier League goal as Tottenham Hotspur triumphed 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion.

Both teams had first-half chances, the best of which fell to Son Heung-min, whose close-range shot was blocked.

West Brom nearly opened the scoring when Callum Robinson’s floated cross was headed off the line by Eric Dier.

The hosts’ Conor Gallagher clipped a post from long range and Darnell Furlong headed at Hugo Lloris, before Giovani Lo Celso missed a big chance at the other end moments after coming on.

Spurs ramped up the pressure and after Carlos Vinicius was superbly denied by Sam Johnstone, Kane flicked Matt Doherty’s 88th-minute cross beyond West Brom’s goalkeeper to secure the victory.

Kane’s seventh goal this season puts Spurs top of the table on 17 points, but Leicester City and Liverpool can go above them if they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City respectively.

West Brom remain winless in 18th place.
