JOHN STONES SIGNS NEW MANCHESTER CITY CONTRACT UNTIL 2026

Manchester City centre back John Stones has signed a new five-year contract with the club, the Premier League side announced on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old made 22 league appearances last season as City won the title. He was also part of the England team that finished runners-up to Italy at Euro 2020.

Stones’ contract with the club was due to expire next summer, but he will now remain at the Etihad Stadium until 2026.

“I love being part of this squad. There are so many quality players here and I know we can continue winning trophies, which is my main focus,” Stones told the club’s website.

“The success we’ve had in the last four years has been incredible. To be a part of it has been a dream come true and I just want to continue winning.”

Stones has made 168 appearances for City and won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two Carabao Cup finals since joining from Everton in 2016.

He was an integral part of manager Pep Guardiola’s squad last season as they reclaimed the league title, forming a strong partnership with Ruben Dias in the heart of the defence.

City will begin their title defence with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Aug. 15.

JOHN STONES WINNER SEES OFF STUBBORN WESTHAM TO HAND CITY 14TH STRAIGHT LEAGUE WIN

Manchester City centre-backs Ruben Dias and John Stones each scored as Pep Guardiola’s team beat West Ham United 2-1 to extend their run of league wins to 14.

The hosts enjoyed the early possession at the Etihad Stadium and took the lead on the half-hour with their first shot on target, Dias heading in Kevin De Bruyne’s pinpoint cross for his first City goal.

Having hit a post three minutes earlier, Michail Antonio drew West Ham level with two first-half minutes remaining. The forward turned in Jesse Lingard’s shot from close range to end 587 minutes of City not conceding a home league goal.

Stones restored City’s lead midway through the second half, finishing well after skilful work from Riyad Mahrez on the right.

Issa Diop headed a chance for West Ham wide in stoppage time as City’s 20th straight win in all competitions sent the leaders 13 points clear of Manchester United, who visit Chelsea tomorrow.

West Ham’s four-match unbeaten run ends as they stay fourth, two points ahead of Chelsea.

STONES’ DOUBLE HELP CITY MAUL CRYSTAL PALACE AS PEP’S MEN CLIMB UP TO SECOND.

Centre-back John Stones scored his first league goals for Manchester City as his side beat Crystal Palace 4-0 to go second in the Premier League table.

City dominated the early proceedings and Stones headed in Kevin De Bruyne’s sublime outside-of-the-boot cross after 26 minutes.

Gabriel Jesus had a good chance to extend their lead shortly before half-time but his header lacked the power needed to beat Vicente Guaita.

Ilkay Gundogan’s powerful effort from 20 yards doubled City’s lead after the break before Stones reacted quickest to Guaita’s parry to score again with 22 minutes remaining.

Raheem Sterling completed the scoring with a spectacular free-kick as City recorded a fifth straight Premier League victory.

The result sees them leapfrog Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Leicester City into second, two points behind leaders Manchester United with a match in hand.

Palace stay 13th with 23 points from 19 matches.
